Bell’s Hopslam, O’dells IPA & The Stable

31 Jan 2009 In: Bullshit, General, Taste

Last night I took the opportunity to sample three great brews all being poured on draft at The Stable. If you haven’t been to The Stable yet, get there. It’s by far one of the best new brew houses to spring up in St. Louis. For a current list of The Stable’s draught choices head on over to STLHops.com.

Bell’s Hopslam Imperial IPA is killer. The menu states, “tongue bruising,” and that is the perfect way to describe this bad-ass taste bud destroyer. Hop aroma pours from the glass, giving your nostrils and eye balls a wake up call upon your first taste. Immediately your tongue is greeted with the intense, robust hop flavors. Followed by nice bitter, but a surprisingly smooth finish into your belly. The traditional ale takes a turn with this deliciously concocted brew. Providing an intense beer that even the biggest hop head will enjoy. As a bonus your enjoying a beer that sports a 10% abv. This big beer lends itself to all sorts of inciting opportunities and will sneak up on you fast. It’s a seasonal brew released on January 7th and will be available thru February. Grade: A

Any chance I get to have a Odell beer on draught is a special occasion, and deserves the effort. Odell IPA draught is enough to get me exicited. Amazing hop flavoring and aromatics is nothing new to Odell brews and they don’t faulter here. Unfortnately I cannot give this brew a fair grade because my taste-buds were still recovering from Bell’s Hopslam, but while I didn’t get to fully taste all the nuiances it did leave me wanting to spend more time with this tasty IPA. I will definitely be ordering it again. A quick side bar is that Jared from The Stable bought up all the Odell IPA draught that he could. Most likely you won’t find it anywhere else in STL.  Grade:  N/A (but a must order for the hop head)

I want to thank Jack, Jared and Paul from The Stable for their hospitality and unbelievable kindness. Interacting with their patrons and providing a great environment for those who enjoy beer. Keep up the great work.

What the hell is Shitty Shack Brewing Co.
